Subject: Etymology/Definition of "Msabu"

I am working on an EFL guide for Spanish student that uses the script of
"Out of Africa" as its base. Can anyone tell me the etymology of the
term "Msabu"? I also notice that the Kikuyu servants in the film use the
term "Memsaab" (a shortened version of "Memsahib"). Was it common for
terms used in India to be imported into other British colonies?
