CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
NEH Summer Seminars for College Teachers
Mill and Tocqueville on Liberty and Democracy
Princeton University June 17-July 12
Director Alan Ryan

Applications are invited for a four-week seminar on Mill and Tocqueville on
Liberty and Democracy. Eligibility: anyone teaching in an institution without
a doctoral programme in their discipline, and independent scholars. Stipend
$2450, accommodation available on campus, some day-care available. Full details
of topics to be covered from the director, Alan Ryan. The seminar is inter-
disciplinary, and applications are warmly welcomed from philosophers, political
theorists, historians, and anyone with an interest in Mill, Tocqueville, or
the subjects in which they were interested. For further information and
