Subject: comparing texts electronically
I've been a member of the Humanist for several years and think I've seen
this discussed so pardon the repetition...
I want to compare texts in editions of two books. It seems to me one would
scan each and use a software package to compare. Any recommendations on the
software? Do's and don'ts for a project like this?
There will be no further analysis of the text aside from seeing where they
differ. The goal is not to compare fine points of typography or printer's
errors, but text added or omitted; although I can see where the former might
be a by-product. Even a very simple package that would alert one to spots
where differences appear without stating them would be helpful.
