The Department of Art History at USC
is pleased to announce:
Expanding the Visual Field
A Graduate Student Conference
How has recent work on mass culture, sexuality and gender,
psychoanalysis, performance, technology, consumerism, race, and
colonialism shifted the terms of visual study? "Expanding the Visual
Field," a one-day conference at USC, will pursue this question through a
series of twenty-minute presentations. The conference will provide a
forum for graduate students in art history and related disciplines (e.g. film
studies, history, cultural studies, comparative literature, architecture,
anthropology, etc.) to present scholarly research and engage in
intellectual dialogue with colleagues at other institutions and departments.
Students throughout the humanities and social sciences are invited to
apply.
"Expanding the Visual Field" will be held at the University of Southern
California on Friday, April 4, 1997. There will be a respondent for each
paper and a panel discussion following the presentations. Abstracts will
be printed and available at the symposium.
To apply, please submit a 500-word abstract along with a CV or brief
