Subject: History of The Book

I am trying to find information on the development of what I call the
"navigational aids" that are now common in books. For example, when were
page numbers introduced? Is there any record of the first index ... or
concordance ?

Advice, counsel, or suggestions would be gratefully received!

Thanks

James Johnston

until me meet again ...
may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
