--[2]------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Oct 2001 10:07:57 +0100 From: "Ufficio Stampa FOLDOP" <ufficiostampafoldop@yahoo.it> Subject: Request of collaboration

The following is a request for collaboration in an online philosophical dictionary but serves at the same time as an announcement for its existence, at <http://www.swif.uniba.it/lei/foldop/>. --WM

    >Dear Ms. McCarty, > >My name is Dr. Gian Maria Greco. I am the head of the press offices project >called FOLDOP (Free On Line Dictionary Of Philosophy), which is published by >SWIF (Sito Web Italiano per la Filosofia). >SWIF is one of the biggest philosophical sites on the web, it depends >completely on the free collaboration of experts in philosophy and people >with a passion for philosophy. From within SWIF FOLDOP was born and >developed as one of the most comprehensive and complete philosophical >on-line dictionaries. > >FOLDOP would like to be a point of reference for all students and experts of >philosophy. The idea that in the philosophical field words can communicate >whole systems of thinking rather than single concepts is driving the FOLDOP >project to a kind of dictionary which puts together the analytical >sensibility (which is so aware of the rigour and of an use of language that- >if necessary- doesnt despise the use of logic formalism) and the >continental sensibility, that is aware of the story of philosophy and looks >for framing each term in the correct ideas tradition, whom it belongs to. >This dictionary is envisioned as a dictionary with a sober, but elegant and >in particular with a solid and efficient graphic interface. The official >language is English so that the dictionary is widely usable. Terms range >from Logic to Philosophy of language, from History of philosophy to >Epistemology, form computational Linguistic to moral and theoretical >philosophy. Definitions are continually updated thanks to the fact that we >can count on the collaboration of every informed user, who is able to >suggest modifications and directions and in this way he can contribute to >the uniqueness of FOLDOP. > >In order to make this dictionary a functional instrument its fundamental to >make it visible and therefore accessible to the most possible number of >users. Thats why I think that your website (Humanities computing units and >institutional resources) is a useful channel in order to reach a wide >audience, that can not only contribute to the expansion of FOLDOP, but most >importantly benefit from the best advantages. > >Therefore I ask for your assistance by inserting FOLDOP in the Link >section of your website. In this letter as postscript I add FOLDOPs ways of >inclusion. > >I thank you for your assistance > >Greetings > >Dr. Gian Maria Greco >Press offices head >FOLDOP Free On Line Dictionary Of Philosophy >http://www.swif.uniba.it/lei/foldop/ >SWIF- Sito Web Italiano per la Filosofia >http://lgxserver.uniba.it/lei/swif.htm > > >PS: The ways of inclusion are two and they dipend on the nature of the link, >you want. >1. Add a link connection to FOLDOP's homepage >(http://www.swif.uniba.it/lei/foldop/) > >2. Add rhe research form. I allow myself to give this possibility, because >it represents an other service, your website can offer to the users. You can >find the instructions for FOLDOP's inclusion at the following address: >http://www.swif.uniba.it/lei/foldop/search-button.html > > >_________________________________________________________ >Do You Yahoo!? >Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com
