    My list of favorites-

FineReader 5.0, a Russian product, is available for PC and Mac. We have
had excellent results. Go to www.abbyyusa.com.

We have also had good results with various versions of OmniPage. Their
product for Mac OS X, on the other hand, does not install correctly and the
company is less than helpful, to put it mildly. Go to www.scansoft.com.

The most current review I know of is PC Magazine's October 15, 2002 "OCR:
    The Best Yet"
    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,551936,00.asp
See also the "boxed" information at http://www.scantips.com/

My impression is that the scanner itself (unless VERY cheap) makes much
    less difference than the software.
