Subject: job as Online Development Manager at OUP

We are currently in the process of recruiting an Online Development
Manager (ODM) for the academic and trade department at Oxford
University Press. The position is a new one, designed to help the
department maximise its online potential over the coming years, and
ensure that we are well placed to respond swiftly and effectively to
changes in the market. Online publishing is already an extremely
important part of our business, with success in the area achieved
through Oxford Scholarship Online (alongside an extensive suite of
online products from the Press more widely) and there are a number of
extensive development plans currently on the table.

The ODM will be responsible for the development and implementation of
the Press's Academic and Trade electronic product strategy in the UK.
They will work with the editorial project sponsors and liaise with
key groups in our technology department - the Electronic Product
Development (EPD) team and Data Management Group (DTG) - to take
forward online plans for a broad range of content from Very Short
Introductions to scholarly editions. The ODM will be supported by two
members of staff.

Key objectives for the role will include:
-- planning and initiating research and concept testing,
-- analysis of market intelligence,
-- formation of commercial product requirements, and
-- liaison with EPD and DMG at the business requirement level
and during the product life cycle (including product design, project
management, data sourcing, data reusability and access).

[The advert] for this role ... appears in the
Guardian this week, and closes on Friday 2 November. I would stress
that the salary indicator on the advert was decided upon very much
with the Guardian audience in mind, i.e. we would usually expect a
range of applicants from the Guardian with very different levels of
experience. For the right candidate, we would be prepared to pay a
significantly higher salary.
