Position Available: Digitization Programmer

Description: The Digitization Programmer position is a full-time UK
Server Administrator/Programmer I position working in the Library
Information Technology Division and with the Digital Programs
Department.

Responsibilities: The Digitization Programmer will work primarily with
Digital Programs to create programs to improve work flows in the
creation of digital images. The programmer will examine digital
conversion work flows and create automated processes. Implement
standards and specifications for metadata creation according to XML,
METS/ALTO, MARC and other formats. Validate data for digital
repository ingest. Application development. Produce scripts for work
with commercially produced software. Database creation and
management. Maintain troubleshoot, update and customize server
applications.

Required Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Computer Science or
similar field plus two years related experience. Master's degree
preferred.

Salary and Benefits: Salary and rank within the University library
system commensurate with experience and qualifications; $35,554
minimum. Full-time appointment within the UK Libraries system.
Standard fringe benefits; 15 days annual leave; TIAA/CREF, Fidelity

Library: The University of Kentucky Libraries system includes the
main William T. Young Library, Medical Center Library, Law Library,
Special Collections & Digital Programs, Agricultural Information
Center, Fine Arts Library, Design Library, Education Library,
Engineering Library and five science libraries. Combined holdings
total more than 3 million volumes. The system has a staff of 80
librarians and 109 support staff and serves a student body of 28,000.
The UK Libraries use the Voyager integrated library system. Library
membership includes the Association of Research Libraries, SOLINET,
ASERL, and the Center for Research Libraries, and is a regional
depository for government publications.
