So, Willard, I'm glad to see your mention of this. While this can be a serious hindrance for researchers, what's on my mind now is the effect on students who expect to be able to do everything on their smart phone or perhaps a tablet. The apps on those devices (I'm not including laptops) often have limited capabilities and also there is the problem of small screen sizes. This week I've been dealing with a campus which where many of the students use Chromebooks and need to use RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) to access full scale "apps" (e.g. MS Office) in the cloud. Apparently the RDP apps for the Chromebook don't have the full capabilities of those for Desktops/Laptops. We're looking further to see if this limitation can be overcome, but I shudder at the thought of trying to do some digital humanities R&D on a 3"x5" screen with the bottom 1 1/2" taken up with a "key board". --henry schaffer On Fri, Nov 16, 2018 at 7:19 AM Humanist wrote: > Humanist Discussion Group, Vol. 32, No. 188. > Department of Digital Humanities, King's College London > www.dhhumanist.org > Submit to: humanist@dhhumanist.org > > > > > Date: 2018-11-16 12:07:00+00:00 > From: Willard McCarty > Subject: Format of postings > > Dear colleagues, > > My usual (and much loved) machine is in for repairs, during which time it > seems I will be unable > to handle postings as I usually do.
