Subject: Science of Stories Call for Papers

   Dear Humanist Colleagues,

I am writing to make you aware of an interdisciplinary Call for Papers
titled "Science of Stories" that I am co-editing for the
multidisciplinary, open-access journal PLOS ONE. We encourage
submissions on (1) exploring the nature of narrative and narrative
thinking in texts and other media (including social media); (2)
proposing methods to extract stories from datasets and vice versa; (3)
analyzing how narratives are transformed and how they cooperate or
compete with each other as they move through time and space; and (4)
communicating data-rich narratives to the public.

The leading Guest Editors for this project are Peter Dodds, Mirta
Galesic, Mohit Iyyer and myself. The accepted papers will form a PLOS
Collection, to be published in late autumn 2019. Contributions should be
submitted by 01 June 2019.

The journal PLOS ONE is published by the Public Library of Science
(PLOS), a non-profit open access publisher and advocacy organization
and selects submissions for scientific rigor rather than perceived
impact. To promote openness and transparency in research, PLOS mandates
all data underlying the results of each paper be made openly available
upon publication.

We are particularly keen on contributing to transparency and
reproducibility in science with this Call for Papers and are hence
asking all authors to make source code associated with their submissions
openly available.

You can find more information here
https://collections.plos.org/s/science-of-stories.

Thanks very much, and I'd be thankful if you could forward this to your
relevant colleagues.

Yours,

Matt
