Humanist Discussion Group, Vol. 33, No. 313. Department of Digital Humanities, King's College London Hosted by King's Digital Lab www.dhhumanist.org Submit to: humanist@dhhumanist.org Date: 2019-10-11 14:26:48+00:00 From: lachance@chass.utoronto.ca Subject: Scholary Communications - A View from America Willard, Kathleen Fitzpatrick's April 2019 plenary address to the Coalition for Networked Information is now available for viewing. https://www.cni.org/events/membership-meetings/past- meetings/spring-2019/plenary-sessions-s19#opening The talk approaches the future of academy-owned infrastructure, then, through ways of thinking about sustainability beyond the technical, and beyond the financial, focus on the social connections and commitments that underwrite the work necessary to keep collective, not-for-profit forms of scholarly infrastructure running. It draws upon Against The Romance Of Community by Miranda Joseph as well as Elinor Ostrom, economist, on the governance of common pool resources. It would be interesting to observe in this era of globalism how the American situation is different from (and the same as) conditions around the world. To paraphrase the colleague you cite often: watch it today. -- Francois Lachance Scholar-at-large http://www.chass.utoronto.ca/~lachance https://berneval.hcommons.org _______________________________________________ Unsubscribe at: http://dhhumanist.org/Restricted List posts to: humanist@dhhumanist.org List info and archives at at: http://dhhumanist.org Listmember interface at: http://dhhumanist.org/Restricted/ Subscribe at: http://dhhumanist.org/membership_form.php
