Dear All,

We’ve recently launched the results of the proof-of-concept project on
DRaL (Distant Reading across Languages):

Live Dataset: https://dral.kdl.kcl.ac.uk/
About: https://www.kdl.kcl.ac.uk/our-work/distant-reading/

I’d like to thank our colleagues from KDL for sharing the same vision,
burning the midnight oil, and getting it out under all the pressures
that we faced together 😊: Arianna Ciula, Goeffroy Noel, Ginestra
Ferraro, and our former MA DH student Natasha Romanova who braved the
internship on this project.

The current dataset features the translations of William Faulkner’s /The
Sound and the Fury / into Lithuanian, Polish (two versions), Russian
(two versions), and French. Yet we are interested in adding more
languages, especially smaller and less widespread ones into which
William Faulkner has been translated. We believe it is important now
more than ever to turn our attention to systematically under-represented
languages and cultures, and their discontent in the times of
geopolitical crises, the heightened nationalist rhetorics, and
linguistic hegemonies.

Since this is the first phase of our bigger plans for a larger scale
project, we are interested in crowdsourcing Faulkner's translations into
other languages. Please help us spread the word about the project and
about our call for people with the knowledge of languages other than
English to contact Gabriele at gabriele.salciute-civiliene@kcl.ac.uk.

Best wishes,
Gabriele
