Subject: Pronouncing the "@" sign.

A discussion has been going on on ExLibris about the "@" sign and its
origin (probably a medieval scribal abbreviation). Also at issue is its
pronunciation in different languages. What does one say in German,
French, Italian, and in the many non-European languages on the
internet when in English one gives an e-mail address, say
"jones@exeter.ac.uk" as "jones at exeter.ac.uk" (allowing for the fact
that the period is uttered as "dot")?
