Subject: seeking source of Pollard quote

Is there among the readers of Humanist anyone who can help me identify the
source of a quotation from A. W. Pollard? I remember it being something
along the lines of "Editions may be as alike as peas, but not as alike as
buttons". Does this ring any bells with anyone?

Best wishes, Julia
